Discovery

Students, especially those starting college or university, face significant financial challenges. These difficulties are compounded when they are unfamiliar with their surroundings, such as local shops and services that offer student discounts. The goal of the Savvy app is to help students discover these resources and discounts, making it easier for them to manage their finances and daily activities.

Empathy Map

Journey Map

Define

In this phase, we distilled the insights from our Discovery Phase to form a clear understanding of user needs and design opportunities. This led to the identification of specific features and improvements for the Savvy app.

Key Insights

Students struggle to manage their finances, especially those unfamiliar with the city or country they’ve moved to.

Many students are unaware of the discounts available to them at local stores, restaurants, and services.

Students prioritize convenience in both discovering discounts and managing their daily expenses.

SWOT

Strength

Strengths include a comprehensive discount directory and user-friendly interface.

Weakness

Weaknesses involve dependence on partnerships and competition.

Opportunity

Opportunities lie in a growing student population and digital payment trends.

Threat

Threats include economic downturn and data security concerns.

MOSCOW

Must-Have

Seamless integration with school ID cards.

Should-Have

Comprehensive discount directory and user-friendly interface.

Could-Have

In-app wallet for additional discounts.

Won’t-Have

Features not directly related to enhancing the student experience.

Ideation

In the ideation phase, we focused on translating insights from the discovery and define phases into practical solutions.

Through brainstorming and iterative design, we explored various user flows and interface concepts, aiming to simplify the student experience and make financial management easier.

The primary goal was to create a seamless and intuitive app that highlights relevant student discounts, while also ensuring ease of use across essential tasks like transportation, dining, and academic purchases.

Final UI Screens

Reflection

I gained valuable insights into designing solutions that address the unique challenges students face in managing their finances and discovering affordable options in a new city.

Through understanding user needs, I crafted a UI that combines functionality with ease of use, helping students quickly locate discounts and make smarter financial choices.

This project emphasized the importance of a user-centered design approach, as well as the impact of intuitive navigation and visual clarity in enhancing the overall user experience.

Background

Starting college brings excitement and a sense of independence. However, beneath the thrill lies growing responsibility as students face new challenges in managing their lives on their own.

Students quickly realize they need to balance daily tasks like commuting, groceries, meals, and buying study materials. For many, it’s overwhelming, especially when they’re unfamiliar with the city.

With limited budgets, students begin to grasp the importance of saving wherever they can. From food to entertainment, finding student discounts and managing finances becomes essential for sustaining their lifestyle.

Problem Statement

"Students face challenges in managing daily expenses and finding discounts, particularly when adjusting to a new city, making financial management more difficult and overwhelming."

Challenge

The challenge was to create a platform that helps students, both local and international, navigate their new environment while addressing their financial struggles.

The app needed to provide a seamless way for students to discover local places offering student discounts, making it easier for them to manage their expenses and explore their new surroundings.

Solution

The solution was to design an intuitive platform that allows students to easily find local businesses offering student discounts.

By integrating user-friendly features like location-based discovery and a simple interface, the app helps students manage their finances while exploring new places in their city.
